Your trusted partner in cardiovascular research
Collaborating with WCN means access to a nationwide network of reliable clinical research teams and centralized processes. This allows you to focus on what truly matters: bringing innovation to patients faster.
- Dr. Martin Hemels, President
The international clinical research landscape is competitive and fragmented. At WCN, you will experience a streamlined and constructive collaboration, reducing delays and enabling you to complete your studies more efficiently.
You gain access to a broad network of experienced clinical investigators and effective processes – including site identification and contract management – allowing us to support your research from start to finish in a reliable and predictable way. Within the international research environment, WCN is committed to continuously strengthening the position of the Netherlands and its research ecosystem.

A strong foundation for innovative research
We have worked together toward one mission since our founding in 1988: improving the health of cardiovascular patients by contributing to high-quality clinical research. With our many years of experience and participation in over 225 studies since 2010, we have the expertise and network needed to optimize research processes.
WCN is an association of researchers, led by an elected board of five cardiologists with a central office in Utrecht. Our dedicated team ensures consistent points of contact, short lines of communication, and personalized service.
Our members are experienced clinical investigators, supported by well-trained research teams with a proven track record across numerous studies. We collaborate with pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations (CROs), and academic groups — from protocol design to publication. Our focus is on efficiency, quality, and long-term partnerships.

Supervisory Board
This independent board monitors the direction, transparency, and governance integrity of the association. Through their strategic oversight, they contribute to a future-proof organization.
Composition of the Supervisory Board: Janine van Diggelen (Chair), An-ho Liem, Mathieu Tjoeng
Transparency
There is widespread societal debate about how transparent and verifiable funding flows are outside of regular insured healthcare. After extensive discussions at various WCN meetings, the Board has drafted a Position Paper. This document outlines how transparency is organized within the field of clinical drug research in general, and specifically within WCN and its members and partners.
